Libélula is the Spanish translation for Dragonfly. In most cultures the Dragonfly symbolizes change and acceptance of change. On the wings the words, “run, deny, hide, fight,” are written as they are common words that are shared with students as an action plan in the situation of an active shooter nearby. Students in Michigan State University were sent a variation of this from police while there was an active shooter on campus in February 2023 signaling a course of action to take in place. Recently the numbers of school shootings have increased across the country and more people are growing fearful. Along with the Dragonfly symbolizing change, it also symbolizes maturity therefore these steel Dragonflies are representational for the hope of change within this nationwide dilemma in our country.
